One of the hardest things about being a fabric lover is having to deal with actually CUTTING into the beloved pattern you have held onto, stored carefully, unfurled and stared lovingly at, only to re-fold and stash again. Behold:
This adorable print, part of the Critter Community range by Suzy Ultman has been sitting on my shelf for a little while, just waiting to be made into a quilt. The problem is, beyond not wanting to cut, is how to take the different sized blocks and make them into a patterned set of blocks. I’ve done some Googling on how to arrange blocks like this but I didn’t find anything helpful. I’ve never made my own pattern from scratch before – this just may be my first attempt. More Googling is in order I think

I LOVE your blog! Its so you and I’m glad you are finally found a fabric for my quilt
Sweet pattern, have fun with it and thank you for the link. I’m off to shop!
Ideas for you for making blocks out of this fabric. I would take the longest measurements (so the length of the square with the trees and the height of the square with the deer) and make that my block dimensions, then use scrap fabric to get the all the squares to that size. Send me a message if you’d like me to doodle up a pattern.
Hey I like that idea a lot! That would make my blocks uniform which I like. I seem to only function in even patterns with predictable lines. I’m working on fixing that. Now, if you were so inclined to whip up a pattern I would be THRILLED to see it. I’d be happy to shell out a few bucks too.
Sorry, I’m just getting back around to this now. If you don’t mind emailing me the measurements of the longest square and the tallest square, I’ll email you back. A collaborative quilt!
Ok, so I am finally getting the measurements! Geez it takes me forever to do everything! Anyway, I measured the blocks, and the longest is 11 x 3.75 and the tallest is 8.5 x 9. I measured them all (because I forgot what you said in your post!) so if you need any more blocks I have them. Thanks for the help!
I can’t wait to see what you do!
